Program Pays Tribute to Shostakovich’s 100th Anniversary
Many consider Dmitri Shostakovich to be the greatest composer of the twentieth century and music centers around the world are celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birthday in 2006. The RCCA and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble will also honor him. The program will include his Prelude and Scherzo, as well as the Sextet for Strings in A major, Op. 48 by Antonin Dvorak and Octet for Strings in E-flat major, Op. 20 by Felix Mendelssohn.
The ensemble’s fall 2006 North American tour takes it to 12 cities, with Rockford being its only engagement in Illinois.
